Tim Finseth

Appointed by House of Representatives

Tim has served as a leader, business man, promoter, and advocate for Northwest Minnesota throughout his entire career.

Tim currently serves as the Transportation Director with the Northwest Regional Development Commission, which includes the seven counties in Northwest Minnesota. He is responsible for leading the Transportation Advisory Committee (TAC), as well as updating the Region 1 transportation plans and priorities. Further, he works to help coordinate Minnesota DOT priorities, programs, and projects with other units of government. He also works with natural resource activities in conjunction with local units of government.

Previously, Tim spent 19 years with the Marshall County Soil and Water Conservation District. He served as the manager for most of those 19 years. In this position, he assisted in bringing several grants to the area. He also helped with planning and implementing community and individual projects. Tim also spent ten of those years serving House district 1B as a member of the House of Representatives. He authored and worked on numerous bills that helped with projects and funding for Northwest Minnesota. He was also greatly involved in bringing flood control measures to the Northwest Minnesota area, and he was a primary leader in the East Grand Forks and Warren flood control projects. On top of that, Tim spend four years as chairmen of the House Agriculture Committee. He was able to assist with agriculture projects and policies state wide. A couple of significant accomplishments of his during this time include bringing biodiesel to Minnesota and securing over $100 million in tax rebate payments to farmers in a difficult economic time.

Tim has also served as a local businessman, owning a hardware store for 16 years. Tim also served on several local boards. Some of the boards he has served on include the Education Foundation, the North Valley Hospital, Church, and the Chamber of commerce. He has resided near Warren since 1989. He lives there with his wife and has two grown children in the area.
