Michelle Beeman is a 34-year resident of the Twin Cities, recently retired from a career in public service centered on environmental protection. Michelle found her passion for the environment and the outdoors during her college summers working in Yellowstone and Kings Canyon National Parks. Her interests led her to pursue a joint law and masters degrees in environmental studies, after which she moved to Minnesota to begin work in state government. Her career included work at the MN Attorney General’s Office, the MN Department of Natural Resources, and as the Environment Director for Dakota County. Michelle was a member of the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) Citizens Board, and also spent four years with The Nature Conservancy working on large-scale forest protection work in Canada. She finished her state service as Deputy Commissioner at the MPCA.
Michelle now enjoys time volunteering, taking classes, hiking, biking, and gardening, along with a surge in post-Covid travel. She hopes to complete her list of visiting all 63 national and 64 state parks. She lives with her spouse, Barbara, in St. Paul.
