Rita Albrecht

Appointed by Governor

Rita Albrecht is a lifelong resident of northern Minnesota and lives in Bemidji. She was elected to Bemidji city council in 2010 and elected mayor in 2012, serving eight years as mayor.

Ms. Albrecht holds degrees in Geography and Education from Bemidji State University and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP). She has experience in a variety public sector positions and has taught as adjunct professor in Geography and Political Science at Bemidji State University. Her career includes employment as assistant planner and community development director for the City of Bemidji; development specialist for Headwaters Regional Development Commission; planner for Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe; and regional planner for MN Department of Natural Resources. She recently retired as NW Region Director at MN DNR.

Ms. Albrecht is married and has two grown children and five grandchildren. She is appointed as a citizen member to a four-year term that ends December 31, 2024.
